Book a Performance

Actors for Human Rights responds to requests from groups and organisations wanting to host a reading of one or more of our scripts. Our aim is to raise awareness, not money, and we have a policy of not charging audiences for performances, as we wish them to be as accessible as possible.

If you wish to host a reading, the costs vary depending on your organisation's level of income:

Income Travel Costs Meal Donation
No income
Under £75,000 £50
£75,000 - £200,000 £100
£200,000 + £150

Travel costs will vary depending on location and whether there are network members living locally. If your group has no way of covering this cost, it can usually be covered by asking audience members for a donation after the performance.

FAQs

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT THE WHOLE PERFORMANCE?

We can adapt our scripts if there is limited time available. We also have shorter, more focused scripts we can offer. Give us a call to talk this through.

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN HOSTING A PERFORMANCE?

It is the responsibility of the host organisation to:

  1. Find and book a venue for the performance
This does not need to be a traditional performance venue. We have performed in churches, lecture halls, village halls, conference rooms, etc. Many of these non-traditional venues can be sourced for free. Whatever venue you have in mind, we can be very flexible. Will we need at least four hours access to the venue. If this is not possible, the host organisation will need to find a quiet room near to the venue where we can have a rehearsal. Actors for Human Rights can bear no responsibility for costs associated with venue hire.

  2. Propose up to three possible dates for the performance
Before proposing these dates, you should check whether they are suitable with the venue you have in mind and with the other people in your organisation who will need to be present on the day. We will get back to you as soon as possible with the most suitable date.

  3. Advertise the performance through your networks and to the general public, where appropriate
Actors for Human Rights can provide double sided, A5 colour flyers, an eflyer and a press release. We cannot provide posters. Most organisations make up their own posters, which we can provide text and images for. We will also advertise the performance through our website.

  4. Ensure, as far as possible, that 50 people or more attend the performance
As all actors involved are donating their time and skills, it is the policy of Actors for Human Rights that we will not perform for audiences of less than 50 people. In order for our work to continue, the actors involved in the network will need to know that what they are doing is having an impact on the public perception. On occasion, it has been the case that the host organisation has not put much effort into promoting the performance and the audience has been very small. If raising an audience is going to be difficult for your organisation, perhaps you could join with another group who will help promote it through their networks. If the audience is going to be less than 50, we can present a shorter version of the script and then have a Q+A session.

WOULD ACTORS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS CONSIDER PROVIDING THEIR PERFORMANCES FOR FUNDRAISING PURPOSES?

If you request a performance for fundraising purposes, i.e., charging audience members for tickets in order to raise money for an organisation other than Actors for Human Rights, we will need our travel costs covered and 25% of funds raised should go to Actors for Human Rights.

WHAT WILL ACTORS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS PROVIDE?

Before the performance
  • Guidance and advice in the lead up to the performance from the AFHR Director
  • Eflyer, hard copy colour A5 flyers, generic press release
  • AFHR Director available for print and radio interviews

The performance
  • A rehearsed reading of one of our scripts delivered by professional actors
  • AFHR Director will be available on request for all performances to be on a Q and A panel
  • Copies of our document '11 Things You Can Do' for all audience members

CAN WE USE THE SCRIPT AND STAGE A PERFORMANCE OURSELVES?

If you feel you or your organisation can take meet the above requirements, please fill out this short online form and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. We look forward to working with you soon!
